- Boil water in a saucepan and add gochujang chili paste, gochugaru red pepper powder, and sugar.
- Stir until the paste dissolves and the sauce is smooth.
- Add fish cakes and onion to the sauce and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Add rice cakes and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the noodles are soft.
- Add soy sauce and sesame oil. Stir well and simmer for a few more minutes.
Serve the tteokbokki hot, garnished with green onions, sesame seeds, and roasted seaweed if desired.
